The rapid bridge installation system (SPRAT), manufactured by the Constructions industrielles de la Méditerranée (CNIM) group, deploys a modular assault bridge. It is a vehicle of the French army allowing the rapid deployment of a mobile bridge over an obstacle, for example a river or a crevasse.
This SPRAT is a solution for crossing dry breaches for the heaviest military or civilian vehicles. It has been in service with the French Army since 2009 under the name SPRAT (Rapid Bridge Installation System). When faced with a breach, the PTA can deploy very quickly with a minimum of personnel, two short 14-meter bridges or one 26-meter bridge. The bridge is launched from the armored cabin, thus ensuring the safety of the operators. The horizontal deployment guarantees the discretion of the operation, which is carried out in just 10 minutes with 2 operators for the long bridge. Thanks to its stabilizing feet, the Modular Assault Bridge can carry out bridging operations from undeveloped banks (slope of +/-5%, slope +/- 10%). The high mechanical resistance of the bridges allows the repeated passage of heavy vehicles. They are qualified in stress and fatigue under the FINABEL code. With a mass of less than 60 tons, the Modular Assault Bridge can use civil roads and be air transported.
