The XLR model of the Leclerc tank, an upgraded version under the French ‘Scorpion’ programme, is designed for better networked cooperation with other vehicles such as the Griffon and Jaguar. The major improvements concern protection, connectivity and armament.

In terms of protection, it incorporates reinforced composite armour against IEDs, an active protection system (APS) to intercept missiles, and the AZUR kit for urban combat. Its connectivity is based on the SICS, enabling tactical data to be shared in real time with other units, facilitating coordination and decision-making.

Armament includes a Herstal remotely operated turret and the ability to fire programmable 120 mm ammunition. Lastly, improvements to the suspension and interior layout enhance crew efficiency.
