Berliet was a French automobile manufacturer, founded by Marius Berliet in 1901. It was originally a specialized manufacturer in automobile, especially luxury cars, until 1939. This is essentially its activity in the field of heavyweights remaining from 1946. It is a breeder-truck tanks specially designed to evolve moderately rough terrain. The GPE3 is built only 2 copies but slightly modified and adapted to the carrying of different types of light tanks. It is controlled early 1939, 20 copies under the new designation GPE4. This last vehicle, without further changes, which will be retained in the war program. After an initial delay of two months, the first 12 GPE4 are delivered between May 20 and June 2, 1940.
